Stephanie Fields, director of Homeward Bound animal rescue, arrested on cruelty charges

KENTUCKY -- A southern Kentucky woman known for rescuing dogs is now in trouble with the law.

Stephanie Fields, director of Homeward Bound, was arrested Thursday morning on a charge of second-degree animal cruelty.

Kentucky State Police Trooper John Pratt has been conducting a month-long investigation into an animal cruelty case after receiving a complaint concerning numerous dogs at a residence on Farriston Road in Laurel County.

On Tuesday, November 24, 2015, Trooper Pratt made contact with the homeowner and the animal’s caretaker Stephanie E. Fields, 40, of London, KY. It was discovered that Fields is the director with Homeward Bound Animal Rescue.

Inside the residence, Trooper Pratt discovered 30 dogs living in horrible conditions inside the home, including filth and feces everywhere. Another 130 dogs were kept outside the residence.

Trooper Pratt had the 30 dogs inside the residence removed that day and continued the investigation.

As a result of his investigation, Trooper Pratt obtained an arrest warrant for Fields and on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at approximately 10:00 AM, Fields was arrested at her home. The other 130 dogs were removed by the Laurel County Animal Rescue

Fields and her husband declined WKYT's requests for comment.

After state police arrested Fields, some people with the animal shelter here in Laurel County showed up to rescue some of the dogs.
