Animal services officers were responding to a call about a stray dog in the 10500 block of Ponder Lane on Wednesday when there was an argument between the officers and a woman living in the neighborhood. She claimed they were taking her dog, which had run loose, and did not believe they had the legal right to do so. The officers said they were within their rights since the dog had been loose.
According to an affidavit, the woman called her son to stop the officers from taking her dog. That is when Juan Rivera-Marroquin’s red Toyota Tacoma came barreling through the neighborhood, the document said.
Marroquin drove his truck directly at the two animal services officers, attempting to hit them or incite fear, according to the affidavit. Neither officer was injured, as they jumped out of the truck’s way.
Marroquin, who had no prior criminal history, later made a statement saying he just “gets very angry.”
Upon Marroquin’s arrest, police found a set of brass knuckles on him and 16 grams of marijuana in the truck.
Marroquin is currently being held in the Travis County Jail on a 1st Degree Felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond is set at $50,000.
