Australia: Brisbane teens charged with animal cruelty for allegedly repeatedly driving over opossum

AUSTRALIA -- The RSPCA has laid charges against two Brisbane teenagers for allegedly driving over an opossum and filming the animal trying to get away.

A Snapchat video was posted online earlier this month, showing a car wheel being driven over the trapped animal until it was severely injured.

One of the men could be seen cheering on the driver and then laughing as the animal tried to escape with the back half of its body severed off.

RSPCA investigators analysed the video and tracked down two 17-year-olds from Greenslopes and Tarragindi, who they allege feature in the clip.

They have been charged with Animal Cruelty under the Animal Care and Protection Act.

In a post on Facebook, RSPCA Queensland chief executive Mark Townend thanked the public for their help in the investigation.

"We would like to thank the public for its assistance in tracking down the alleged offenders," he said.

The society is also looking for a person who shot a kangaroo with an arrow at Greenbank recently.

It was taken in for treatment but it and its unborn baby died.
