AUSTRALIA -- POLICE are urging parents to supervise their children at all times after a toddler was mauled by a Jack Russell terrier at Minto yesterday.
The girl, 3, was left with deep cuts to her face and arms after she was attacked by the small dog while she was playing in the front yard of her home in Nelson St at 5.35pm.
The toddler needed stitches after the savage attack and was taken to Liverpool Hospital.
The owners of the dog were walking it on a leash when the incident occurred, police say.
“The child was playing in the front yard when she grabbed the dog on its face and tried to pat it,” Macquarie Fields chief Inspector Mark Brett said.
“The dog snapped at her and clawed her on the nose and cheeks. The girl’s father was in the garage at the time.”
