The wounded animal was found Friday near Hole and Jones avenues in the La Sierra neighborhood of Riverside. One arrow had penetrated the opossum near its right eye and a second arrow went through its right flank.
It was rushed to a county animal shelter in Jurupa Valley, where a staff veterinarian immediately began surgery to try and save the opossum. It is expected to survive.
Supporters of Wildlife Emergency Services donated enough money to allow the shelter to offer a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for shooting the opossum.
