California: Animal Cruelty Suspects - Tyler Scott Vest, 23, and Kylie Stringer, 26 - to Appear in Court after Cat Found Tied with Electrical Tape

CALIFORNIA -- Two people who were arrested after a cat was found with its limbs bound together with electrical tape appeared in court on Tuesday morning.

Tyler Scott Vest, 23, and Kylie Stringer, 26, were arrested on Saturday after Santa Clarita Sheriff’s deputies searched their vehicle and found narcotics and the cat bound with electrical tape inside a pet carrier in the vehicle said Shirley Miller, public information officer for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The two appeared in the San Fernando Superior Courthouse on Tuesday morning to face the charges against them.

Vest is being charged with the felony count of possession for sale of a controlled substance, and a misdemeanor count of cruelty to an animal. He is in custody at Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles in lieu of $115,000 bail. His court date was continued to Wednesday, said Ricardo Santiago, spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Stringer is being charged with the misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and possessing a controlled substance. She is being held at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood in lieu of $20,000 bail, Miller said.

Vest and Stringer were arrested late Saturday night and booked early Sunday morning after two Santa Clarita Sheriff’s deputies noticed their car behind a closed business, said Miller.

As the deputies were searching the vehicle, they found a cat buried upside-down in a cat carrier, along with narcotics.

As they removed the cat, they were shocked to see that the cat’s paws were each individually taped with electrical tape and both of the cat’s front and rear legs were bound together.

The cat could not move and was “meowing loudly in discomfort,” according to a Facebook post made by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. After the deputies worked to free her, Animal Control Officers came and took the cat.

According to a Facebook post by Miller Tuesday, Animal Control officers are reporting that the cat, named Lily, is “doing great” and there have been numerous inquiries from community members wanting to adopt her.
