Dog attack near Nyabing in WA's Great Southern leaves 9 yo girl with 80 stitches

AUSTRALIA -- A nine-year-old girl has received 80 stitches to her arm after being attacked by a dog near Nyabing in Western Australia's Great Southern.

A pit bull mix dog attacked the girl while she was visiting a dam east of the town with her family on Saturday.

She was taken to Katanning hospital for treatment, needing both internal and external stitches.

The dog, owned by a relative of the injured child, was seized in Katanning and found to be unregistered.

Its owner has been fined for failing to prevent the animal from causing injury and failing to microchip, restrain or register the dog.

Kent Shire chief executive Peter Bentley said the dog would be euthanized on Monday unless the owner paid a $1,500 fine and pound costs.
