Florida: James Wilson Jr., 21, arrested after keeping his dog locked in storage shed

FLORIDA -- A Boynton Beach man was arrested after police discovered an emaciated two-year-old pit bull living in a storage room with no light or food.

James Earl Wilson Jr., 21, was arrested on Tuesday.

Boynton Beach police said they got a call on July 8 from Wilson's grandmother who told them Wilson was keeping two neglected dogs at his house.

When they arrived, Wilson told them he had removed a puppy from his residence and showed them another dog kept in a storage room. According to the arrest report, the room had no light or ventilation and had no food inside of it.

The dog, named Rock, was emaciated and dirty, police said.

Wilson said he didn't have any dog food because he couldn't afford it, and fed Rock a can of food a day. He relinquished ownership of the dog to police. According to a Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control veterinarian, Rock weighed 39 pounds, had fleas and was anemic.

Police said Rock was rehabilitated a few weeks after he was found and adopted by a family.

Wilson is charged with cruelty to animals and unlawful confinement of animals, and was released from the Palm Beach County Jail on Tuesday.
