MISSISSIPPI -- McComb officials rescued a dog that slipped into one of the sewage lagoons at the city's wastewater treatment plant.
Firefighters and animal control officers rescued the dog Thursday, the Enterprise-Journal reported.
Three dogs had fallen into the water, and the lagoon's plastic lining prevented them from escaping, officials said.
A plant employee noticed the animals in the lagoon and notified authorities. Two of the dogs drowned while trying to climb their way out.
McComb animal control officer Monique McCullough said it took about 15 to 20 minutes for firefighters to rescue the dog.
Officials said it's hard to determine how the dogs got into the wastewater treatment area. The rescued dog, described as a male hound mix, was taken to an animal shelter to be cleaned and fed.
