North Carolina: Mother, daughter recovering following dog attack

NORTH CAROLINA -- The Onslow County Sheriff's Office said a mother and her daughter are recovering following a dog attack.  Deputies said the attacks happened Monday around 5:30 p.m. at 103 Coral Ridge Road in Richlands.

According to investigators, the daughter was playing in a neighbor's yard when her mother heard the child scream. The mother reportedly jumped a fence to find her child was bit on her arm by the neighbor's dog.

That's when deputies said the dog turned on the mother, biting her several times.  Deputies said the dog's owner tried to help get the animal off the woman.  Another neighbor heard the commotion and shot the dog.

Deputies said all of this transpired before law enforcement and animal control arrived.

Animal control officials said the dog, a mixed mastiff breed, is still alive.

Deputies said the mother and daughter are okay.  No charges have been filed at this time.
