A woman was walking her two dogs, both golden retrievers, on Sea Pines Place at about 1 p.m. They ran out onto a small frozen pond and went into the water. She went to get them. West Chester crews successfully rescued all three.
"Their temperature was just the low side of normal, so we put them in the dryers here," Smith said. "We had our groomer dry them with a heated dryer. She listened to their lungs for any kind of crackles or anything going on, nothing there, so right now, they are doing well."
The woman was taken to West Chester Hospital; a family member said she's expected to be fine.
On Friday, also in West Chester, neighbors living near a retention pond saved two boys after they fell through the ice trying to get their dog.
Experts recommend keeping dogs on a leash when near a body of water in the winter because of the risk of hypothermia or death. Some recommend staying away from icy ponds and lakes entirely.
