PENNSYLVANIA --A Moon Township man was arrested Thursday following accusations that he killed his ex-girlfriend’s pet rabbit and threatened to do the same to her, according to police.
Authorities said Christopher Brown, 23, who was upset over a breakup, broke into his ex’s house, spread gasoline throughout it and threw one of her two pet rabbits down the steps, breaking its spine.
“One of the rabbits is at the base of the stairs in significant pain unable to move. It's obviously very badly injured,” Moon Township Police Chief Leo McCarthy said.
On his way to jail Thursday afternoon, Brown told Channel 11 News that he did not kill the pet rabbit.
“He killed my sister’s pet. Her first bunny she bought with her first paycheck from her first job. That was her baby,” the victim’s sister, Brittany Rossi, said.
Rossi said the rabbit thrown down the steps had to be euthanized.
“What kind of monster does that? And who goes and terrorizes somebody for no reason?” she said.
Police said Brown called his former girlfriend’s mother and left a voicemail bragging about the killing and threatening to kill again. Rossi played the recording for Channel 11 News.
“I know where she is. I should go there and kill them right now, but I'm not going to. I killed her rabbit,” Brown is heard saying in the voicemail left for the victim’s mother.
Brown is also accused of violating a protection from abuse order when he entered his ex’s house.
He faces a long list of charges in addition to animal cruelty.
