Rhode Island: Frederick Sisson charged with animal cruelty after shooting and killing his ex-wife's dog

RHODE ISLAND -- A South Kingstown man was charged with malicious killing of an animal after he shot and killed a dog, police said.

According to the South Kingstown Police Department, Frederick Sisson was watching his ex-wife’s dog, a five-year-old pit bull mix, when the dog bit him on the hand.

In retaliation, police said Sisson shot the dog in the head with a 12 gauge shotgun while it was trapped under the front porch of the home.

According to officials, the dog, named Kilo, died immediately and Sisson buried it in a shallow grave in the backyard of the home.

Sisson was arrested by South Kingstown police after a month-long investigation and the body was exhumed from the yard. It was then taken to the University of Connecticut, where a necropsy was performed.

University officials confirmed the dog’s cause of death, and police said it was in line with what Sisson originally told police.

Police said Sisson is charged with one count of domestic malicious killing of an animal and one misdemeanour count of firing in a compact area.

Sisson is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Fourth District Court.
