TENNESSEE -- A woman attempting to sell a pig on Craigslist ended up losing $2,150, Shelbyville police said.
The victim said a man identifying himself as Richard Smith of Elk Ridge, Maryland sent a check for $2,150 instead of the sale price of $500.
"Smith" told her to cash the check and wire him $1,650. The victim suspected a scam and sent the entire $2,150 back to locations in New York and Texas,
But the check bounced, and she now owes her bank the full $2,150. The return address for the check is for a shipping service in Elk Ridge.
