Terina Smith, 44, cited for six counts of animal cruelty

TENNESSEE -- Terina Smith, 44, 115 Hunting Woods Way, Newport, was cited for six counts of animal cruelty on Thursday, Dec. 31, the Cocke County Sheriff’s Officer reported.

Officers were sent to Smith’s residence in reference to a report of alleged cruelty to animals.

Upon investigation, officers said that found six dogs Smith was in possession of that were severely underweight, Deputy Sheriff Jason Phillips reported.
The dogs allegedly did not have adequate food and water. Some of the dogs had very poor shelter and no bedding to lay on. One dog had a rubber tote for a doghouse with no bedding, the report stated.
In addition, the six dogs were allegedly chained up in a wooded thicket with little room to move due to the chains being short and tangled up in the shrubbery.
Smith was cited to appear in court on the six counts of animal cruelty.
Animal Control was contacted, and arrived on the scene to transport the dogs to the Newport Animal Shelter for a medical evaluation, according to the report.
Phillips stated that photos were taken of the dogs prior to their removal from Smith’s residence.
