Australia: Twelve-year-old boy charged with animal cruelty after torturing chickens to death

AUSTRALIA -- A 12-year-old boy has been charged with animal cruelty after chickens were allegedly tortured and killed at a Sydney preschool.

Two boys were captured on CCTV footage allegedly breaking into the chicken coop at the Little Learning School in Ambarvale on Saturday, according to an employee who described the attack as "disgusting".

"(They) tormented our beloved pets and brutally cornered and stomped on one until it stopped moving," the employee said in a Facebook post.

The boys allegedly hurled rocks and sticks at the remaining chicken before taking off with one, she said.

"One of the boys wraps one of the chickens up in foil and dragged it out of the coop... holding the chicken by one leg," the preschool employee said.

Police allege the 12-year-old boy was one of two people who killed a chicken and stole a second, which was later also killed.

He was arrested after attending Campbelltown Police Station with one of his parents on Wednesday and has since been charged with numerous offences including torture, beating and causing death of an animal and trespass.

He was refused bail to appear at a children's court on Thursday.
