CONNECTICUT -- A pit bull was recently shot and killed by a local animal control officer after it mauled another dog, which also had to be euthanized, according to police.
Police said the dog escaped from its owner’s home on Vance Drive on Thursday and attacked a small Pomeranian that was being walked nearby.
A local animal control officer responded around 12:53 p.m. and could not separate the dogs, police said.
“He had no choice but to shoot it (the pit bull),” said Police Lt. Richard Guerrera.
Both animals were taken to a local veterinary hospital after the attack. The pit bull was put down because of its aggression, Guerrera continued, and the Pomeranian was euthanized because of the severity of the injuries it sustained.
Police said the owner of the pit bull, Catherine Streeto-Michaud, 53, of 98 Vance Drive, was issued infractions for failure to vaccinate, having an unlicensed dog, possession of a vicious dog and two counts of allowing a dog to roam.
