FLORIDA -- Dputies arrested a Deltona man this week after finding the decomposed remains of a small dog in his foreclosed Mount Dora home.
The dog was found curled around the base of the toilet with the lid closed, appearing like it was trying to get into the toilet for water, an incident report said. Deputies also said part of the floor had been dug up by the dog trying to dig a way out of the Division Street home.
Several dead hermit crabs were also found in an aquarium, which deputies said had obviously starved.
A company that was in the process of reprocessing the abandoned home for Bank of America first reported the incident in late 2011. Deputies tried to find the homeowners back in 2011 but couldn't find an address or phone number for them. They ended up tracking the home to George McVicar.
McVicar, 49, was charged with aggravated animal abuse Wednesday after turning himself in to the Lake County Jail and bonded out for $2,000.
