Police were following up on an anonymous tip that dog fighting had been going on for weeks at a home in the 300 block of Southwest 10th Avenue, according to an arrest report.
Officers knocked on the door and were greeted by Roy Chester Bennett, 48, who had blood on his hands, tee shirt and socks, the report said.
"I asked Bennett why he was covered in blood and he stated that his dog was hurt in the backyard," an officer wrote.
According to the report, after Bennett let officers into the backyard, they found malnourished dogs in makeshift cages without food or water. Another dog found unchained was bleeding from its mouth with cuts all over its body.
"I observed carpets laid out on the dirt covered in what appeared to be dry blood along with fresh blood," an officer wrote in the report. "The carpets were surrounded by plywood in a square shape in what appeared to be a dog fighting ring."
Police arrested Bennett on 11 counts of animal cruelty, 11 counts of fighting or baiting animals, and 11 counts of confining animals without sufficient food, water or exercise.
He was held in Palm Beach County Jail on $66,000 bond.
More than 20 years ago, Bennett got a slap on the wrist after officers observed him throw a trapped raccoon in front of a pit bull and yelled and encouraged the pit bull to tear the raccoon to pieces.
Twenty years later, he's still torturing and killing animals. Oh yeah and he's also a convicted rapist so he's got that going for him, too.
