Georgia: Three more dogs found in north Forsyth mobile home

GEORGIA -- Rescue workers returned to a hoarding house in Forsyth County Thursday after reporters spotted several dogs inside the empty trailer. Sheriff deputies responding to the call said the dogs were likely living underneath the floor.

Neighbors tell 11Alive's LaTasha Givens the 28 dogs seized Wednesday night were Jack Russell Terrier mixes. While police did not immediately reveal how they received the call about the hoarding house, a woman who spoke to Givens said she also called police after seeing the deplorable conditions.

The resident living in the trailer went to an nearby hospital seeking aid. When sheriff deputies secured a search warrant for the patient's home on Franklin Goldmine Road in Cumming, they found nearly 30 dogs. One of them was dead.

Thursday, three additional dogs were removed by deputies in hazmat suits.

"The conditions inside are deplorable," Corporal Pete Sabella said, "For their health and safety and welfare, they're wearing hazmat suits and air packs."

Once the door of the home was opened, the stench from inside could be smelled 200 feet away.

When asked if the resident could face charges, Sabella said it's still an active investigation. The Sheriff's Office is not releasing any information about the resident's medical condition, including how his hospitalization launched the investigation.

All of the dogs were transported to the Forsyth County Animal Shelter where they're receiving medical attention. The owner of the dogs would either have to surrender the animals, or the county would have to seize them through a legal process before they would be available for adoption.
