Illinois: Keithsburg man Richard Carle, 39, sought for animal cruelty taken into custody

ILLINOIS -- A Keithsburg man sought by the Mercer County Crime Stoppers was taken into custody around 3 p.m. Sunday, according Mercer County Sheriff Deputy Tony Baugh.

Richard Allen Carle, 39, last known address 1803 Jackson St., Keithsburg, was wanted on a warrant for cruelty to animals. According to court records, Mr. Carle is charged with 12 counts — including three felonies — related to animal cruelty.


Mercer County Sheriff Dave Staley said Mr. Carle allegedly stole hogs from a previous employer and had them penned up in his basement.

On Monday afternoon, Mr. Carle was in the Mercer County Jail with bond set at $20,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Feb. 16.

According to the sheriff's department, Mr. Carle is a also a registered sexual predator.
