New York: Tammy Green, 44, Faces Arson, Animal Cruelty Charges

NEW YORK -- A Castleton woman has been charged with four counts of felony aggravated cruelty to animals after she allegedly intentionally set a fire at a residence, causing the deaths of three cats and a dog.

Tammy C. Green, 44, was arrested by State Police following their investigation of a structure fire that occurred shortly after noon Thursday in the village of Castleton.


At approximately 12:41pm, the Rensselaer County 911 center received a call for a fully involved structure fire at 6 Green Ave, near the intersection of State Route 9J in Castleton. Several fire companies from southern Rensselaer County responded and assisted in fighting the fire.

Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was the result of being intentionally set by one of the occupants. It is believed that there were three cats and one dog within the residence which succumbed to the intense smoke and fire.

Two fireman are being treated for injuries sustained while fighting the fire.

In addition to the animal cruelty charges, Green was arrested for third degree arson and second degree assault.
