North Carolina: Pamlico County seeking help with animal cruelty case

NORTH CAROLINA -- Officials with the Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office are seeking information into an animal cruelty case involving three donkeys.

On Monday, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to Gibbtown Road in the Merritt community to assist the Pamlico County Animal Control in regards an animal cruelty case.


They found three donkeys had been shot and killed. Two of the animals were located a short distance from the owners’ residence on Jan. 30. On this call, a third animal was located in the stable. It’s believed all three were shot at the same time.

Neighbors in area reported seeing a silver SUV, similar to a Chevrolet Suburban, in the area on Jan. 30 around 3-4 p.m. Gunshots could be heard not long after the SUV was sighted.

The Pamlico County Animal Control Office and The Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office are seeking the community’s assistance in identifying and locating anyone involved in this crime. There is a $500 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for this crime.
