South Africa: Durban woman undergoes hours of surgery after dog attack

SOUTH AFRICA -- A 52-year-old Durban woman underwent hours of cosmetic surgery on Monday night after two dogs attacked her at her home in Kloof.

The woman's mother, who requested anonymity, said her daughter tried to save her Jack Russell named Zac from two large dogs which had scaled a wall and entered their garden.

“Two large dogs came into our garden and when my daughter tried to rescue her dog she was knocked down and they attacked her,” she said.

The woman was badly injured, and underwent several hours of surgery at the Hillcrest Private Hospital.

“She sustained bite wounds and I was just trying to get through to hospital now to find out how she was doing this morning. She was cheerful, but in surgery for nearly three hours last night,” she said on Tuesday.

The two dogs somehow got over a 1.8m high wall and into her garden. The Jack Russell was badly wounded and expected to undergo surgery at a veterinary clinic on Tuesday morning.

“He had perked up last night when I went to see him and they were going operate today,” she said.
