Texas: Animal cruelty charges pending after malnourished horses found in Gladewater

TEXAS -- Gladewater officers are investigating an animal cruelty case.

On Sunday, Gladewater Animal Control officers, along with Gladewater Police Department officers, seized nine horses from a location in the 700 block of South Rodeo Street in Gladewater.

According to police, three days prior to the seizure, the horses were found with no feed and algae- and mosquito-infested water that was not suitable for consumption.

On Sunday, the horses were found in the same situation. Several were malnourished and one was lying on the ground because it was too weak to stand up on its own. The horse required emergency care, the department said.

A seizure warrant was obtained and all nine horses were placed in the care of Safe Haven Equine Rescue.

The investigation is ongoing and criminal charges against the owner are pending.
