One of the carcasses had, what appeared, to be a clean cut at the neck where the head had been severed.
During the investigation, a local resident told Dep. Hobson the dogs have been there for about three to four weeks and were covered over by recent rains in the ditch and were now being exposed after the water drained off.
This resident also said there was a third dog nearby and further down the road.
Dep. Hobson found a deceased pit bull dog, gray in color and wearing a collar about two to three hundred yards away along side of FM 1008. According to the deputy, it appeared this animal had been dumped in the ditch as boot prints were found in the mud next to where the dog was placed.
From what could be determined, it did not appear the dog had been stuck by a vehicle.
However, due to the advanced decomposition of all three dogs, it was not possible to determine any external injuries such as gunshot wounds or lacerations nor can it be confirmed that this is, in fact, a case of cruelty to animals. But from the circumstances and the fact that one dog has clearly been decapitated, the strong possibility of abuse is possible.
Anyone having any information on these deceased animals or any other dogs found in this area are ask to report the findings to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at (936) 336-4500.
