Texas: Joe Ramirez, 37, used shotgun to kill puppy because it was eating his cat's food

TEXAS -- A San Antonio man avoided being hit by gunfire but now faces animal cruelty charges after police say he killed a neighbor's puppy.

Joe Ramirez, 37, faces a felony charge of cruelty to a non-livestock animal after the incident in the 200 block of W. Mally Blvd. Wednesday.

An arrest warrant indicates Ramirez used a shotgun to kill a neighbor's puppy after he became frustrated over it "eating the cat food and leaving feces in the yard."

Ramirez told investigators he "thought" the shotgun contained blanks and he was only trying to scare the dog away.

Yeah, how often do people go to the store, buy shotgun 'blanks', load them into the gun and keep the gun handy for... hmm, burglars? If you're protecting your property with a shotgun, why would you ever put 'blanks' in it?? He's a fat liar.

According to the warrant, a female friend of the dog owner then fired a gun at both Ramirez and his roommate.

The woman, 30-year-old Angela Cruz, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

If I were her, I would claim self-defense. Seeing the horrific death of a defenseless puppy, she couldn't help but think Ramirez might do the same to her so she shot him in self-defense.

A background check of Cruz revealed two previous felony drug convictions in Bexar County as well as multiple arrests for drug possession.

All four people: Ramirez and his roommate, the dog owner and Cruz, were questioned by homicide detectives earlier this week.

A man who answered the door at Ramirez's home acknowledged Ramirez's arrest but then repeatedly stated: "I don't know nothing about it".
