United Kingdom: Authorities looking for person who held down girl's cat and shot an arrow into its head

UNITED KINGDOM -- Shocking pictures show the aftermath of a crossbow attack on the pet, who is believed to have been held down and shot at close range.

The gold and pink arrow went clean through the top of the moggy's head and he was left wandering around her neighborhood — still attached — until a neighbor spotted him.

But to the delight of his 11-year-old owner Sydney O'Mahoney from Birmingham, little Lionel made a quick recovery after a trip to the vets.

Her mum Sharon O'Mahoney, 47, said: "He's lucky he's greedy and has a fat head, or he would be dead.

But Sharon, who forked out £350 for Lionel's surgery to remove the arrow hopes the twisted attackers are caught.

She recalled how she found the defenseless kitty roaming the neighborhood.

"I felt physically sick, I've never been so angry," she said.

"We bundled him up and rushed him straight to the vets. They were very shocked when they saw him - they said they've never seen anything like it.

"Due to the nature of the injury they think it must've been done at a very close range - it's possible he was being held down as it was jammed through his head."

Vet Rory Lydon, from Lydon Veterinary Centre in Birmingham, said: "The person who fired the arrow needs to be caught and prosecuted.

"This is the worst case of cruelty I have seen - a cat 'shot' with an arrow - in my 35 years as a vet."
