UNITED KINGDOM -- These haunting pictures show a Doberman left to starve inside a squalid Warrington home after the owner moved out.
The dog, called Kiezer, was severely under-weight and had to be put down by a vet because she could not recover from her mistreatment.
Her owner Karl Davies, 50, (DOB 9-26-1965) moved out of his home in Lilford Avenue and left Kiezer and another dog, a Staffordshire bull terrier called Jagger, behind with no food or water.
Davies was convicted of five animal cruelty charges in his absence at Wigan magistrates’ court . A warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to turn up for the hearing.
RSPCA inspector Victoria Hancox said: “He had two dogs and essentially moved out the property and left them.
“The conditions inside were disgusting. There was rubbish and piles of dog mess everywhere. There was no food or water for the dogs. If we hadn’t been called by a worried member of the public both those dogs could have starved to death.”
The dogs were seized by police in August last year and placed in RSPCA care.
Inspector Hancox added: “Her bones were poking through her skin. She had pressure sores which were the worst I’ve seen. It must have been so painful for her.
“She was treated at the vets and placed into a foster home where she was given the love and attention she deserved.
“She had started to put on weight and things were looking good but sadly she suffered a relapse and couldn’t recover. The vet decided the kindest thing was to put her to sleep.”
Jagger made a full recovery and now lives with a loving family.
Inspector Hancox added: “There is absolutely no doubt that these two dogs suffered and I’m pleased that justice has been done.”
Davies was convicted of two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to Kiezer and three of failing to meet her needs and those of Jagger by not providing fresh drinking water and a suitable environment.
