Arkansas: Shawn Barnes, 24, charged with assaulting woman, dragging dog through yard

ARKANSAS -- Police arrested a man on domestic battery and animal cruelty charges after responding to a domestic incident, according to a police report.

Fayetteville police arrested 24-year-old Shawn Barnes and charged him with third-degree domestic battery, criminal use of a prohibited weapon, and cruelty to animals.

According to the report, on Wednesday, an officer responded to an assault and battery call after a woman claimed her ex-boyfriend attacked her.

Officers reportedly found Barnes nearby dragging a pit bull on a leash through a yard. The officer reported that Barnes had a large (12-15 inch) knife on his hip, plus another knife and brass knuckles in his pocket.

Barnes told officers he was staying at the woman's home when a fight broke out. He told police he went to the garage to get dog food and leave when the woman confronted him. He admitted to shoving her and leaving. He also described a confrontation with the woman's boyfriend.

The woman was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center. Animal Control was called to take the dog.
