CALIFORNIA -- El Centro Mayor Jason Jackson is under investigation after Imperial County Sheriff’s deputies found a horse showing signs of hunger on his property.
The investigation is being handled as a possible case of animal cruelty. Deputies responded to an anonymous report last week when someone saw the horse. Animal Control ensured the horse was in stable condition.
Jackson says the animal’s drastic weight loss may be health-related but assures this is not a case of neglect.
“I am an animal person so it is a little disturbing when people start jumping into conclusions. Everyone agreed that he’s certainly very thin and he dropped a lot of weight but there are no signs of abuse or neglect.” Jackson said.
Jackson says he has been in contact with a veterinarian all week and expects blood test results this coming Monday.
