GEORGIA -- Investigators are looking into several dog deaths in southeast DeKalb County.
A woman told Channel 2’s Liz Artz she found two of the dead dogs and called animal control.
She says one of the dogs had an obvious bullet wound to the head. The cause of death for the second dog is undetermined, but animal services investigators say those aren’t the only two cases they have open right now.
The woman, who didn’t want to be identified for her own safety, told Artz she found the dogs on a section of Harold Avenue known for illegal dumping.
“It was right over here and kind of hard to see. It had been there for a while,” she said. “He had a towel wrapped around his head, and he was shot in the head with one single bullet."
She said she called DeKalb County to pick up the dog, but real concern set in several weeks later when she stumbled across a second dog.
“Rigamortis hadn't set in. It had just been dumped,” she said. “There was an insignia on the collar. However, there was no information to an owner. I thought it might be someone's pet, because it wasn't just a chain or cloth collar."
DeKalb County Animal Services say they have several open cases right now, including a goat found not too long ago.
“We're thinking this is something that is happening in the middle of the night, late at night while people are sleeping, and there are no witnesses,” said DeKalb County Public Information Officer Shiera Campbell.
Investigators want people with information to come forward.
“If somebody does this to a dog, they could do it to a child,” said one concerned neighbor.
If anyone has any information, call the animal services tip line at 404-294-2645.
