Virginia: Police shoot dog to break up attack

VIRGINIA -- A dog had to be subdued by a Moundsville police officer Friday afternoon during an attack on another dog.

Investigators say it all started at a home along 6th Street around 11:30 a.m. A concerned resident approached police officers about noises he could hear from behind a fence.

When police went to check it out, they were shocked to find two adult pit bulls mauling a smaller dog.

After repeated attempts to impede the attack, officers were forced to shoot one of the pit bulls. The dog is expected to survive.

Police say they later found another small dog injured on the property. When it was over, three dogs were taken to a local animal hospital.

The case is now being reviewed by animal control officials and police.
