Washington: Facebook post by Lisa Parker prompts Everett animal cruelty investigation

WASHINGTON -- The City of Everett said Wednesday that animal control officers with Everett Animal Services are investigating allegations of animal abuse involving an Everett dog owner.

"We've received many calls and emails from citizens who had concerns about postings the dog owner made on Facebook," said Glynis Frederiksen, shelter manager. "We take these allegations very seriously and our animal control officers are actively investigating the case.

Everett officials say the dog owner posted photos to Facebook that appeared to show her dog with a urine-soaked pad over its head. They say the investigation is ongoing and is not expected to be completed until next week.

If the investigation finds evidence of cruelty or neglect, the case will be forwarded to the City Prosecutor's Office to review for potential charges under the Everett Municipal Code.

Several people posted an image of the dog Facebook post on the KING 5 Facebook page, expressing their concern.

"This needs to be investigated as animal cruelty," said one woman.

The Everett shelter's animal control unit enforces City of Everett animal codes and provides education and outreach programs throughout the city. In 2015, animal control officers investigated nearly 260 complaints of animal abuse.

In a response to one of her Facebook friends who asked if it actually worked in the comment section on the post, Lisa Parker wrote: 'We shall see Chas, we shall see. It has worked for pretty much all other dog (sic) that I have owned.

'Another verry (sic) effective tool ... S*** in the house, get it stuffed in [the dog's] mouth and taped shut.

'Yes it's a nasty job but ... it works!'

Parker has not responded to requests for comment about the photo she shared on February 12.

She has since uploaded several photos to her Facebook page of Ludo, showing him stretched out laying on the floor.

In the comments portion of that post in response to a compliment about Ludo, she wrote: 'Yeah...and, let's not forget, ABUSED!'
