Australia: Arrest warrant issued over extreme case of dog abuse caught on video

AUSTRALIA -- Police are hunting a Welsh man after CCTV footage showed him regularly tormenting and abusing his starving pet dog.

Upsetting security footage of Martin Doyle's balcony show him taunting his starving dog with bowls of food and drenching it in dirty water.

All the while, his obedient black and white Pit Bull Terrier's jaw is tied shut with a fabric belt.

Doyle, 32, can be seen stepping out onto his apartment balcony with a bucket of gray water and a mop, then pouring the soiled water over the dog's head.

The footage was filmed when Doyle was living in Salford, but he has since relocated from Greater Manchester to Abergele, Wales.

Police issued the arrest warrant after Doyle failed to show up at court on Wednesday.

In his absence, Doyle was found guilty of three counts of failing to meet the needs of an animal and will be sentenced this year.

Prosecuting the case on behalf of the RSPCA, David McCormick told Manchester Magistrates Court that Doyle had been alerted to the abusive treatment of his dog and visited by animal welfare officers several times.

When an animal welfare officer visited and offered the dog food on June 18, it was "clearly very hungry".

It was clear the dog was not being given access to clean drinking water, did not have a comfortable resting place and was not being kept in a place that would ensure it was safe from injury, Mr McCormick said.

"Morley was not able to drink the water provided because of the material around the muzzle," Mr McCormick added.

Mortley has since been taken to a re-homing centre, where an animal welfare case worker said Morley was 'a f---ed up dog' as a result of the way Doyle treated him.
