California: Tammy Corbin rrested for violently abusing her dog, possessing meth

CALIFORNIA -- A woman, reportedly on meth, is arrested after violently abusing her dog in front of a Fresno County School.

35-year-old Tammy Sue Corbin is facing drug and animal cruelty charges. The incident happened Thursday in broad daylight in front of the West Park School District.

Joshua Montano was leaving school with his mom when he saw a woman slamming her dog around.

"It was just getting tortured," Montano said. "She was right here, picking the dog up and just throwing it."

"We seen her slamming the dog against the fence, and she was slamming him against poles," Montano's mother Bernice Amaya said.

Montano told his mom to call 911. While they waited for deputies to arrive, they saw the woman swinging the dog by a belt, dragging and punching it, for 15 minutes.

Amaya followed the woman down the road, "she seen that we were following her, it didn't phase her."

Fresno County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, on the 2700 block of S. Valentine Ave in Fresno. They arrested Corbin, in her possession was meth, a meth pipe and marijuana. When asked why she was abusing her dog, she told deputies she was angry.

"She said, oh I'm having a bad day," Fresno County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Tony Botti said. "Some of my stuff was recently stolen and I was taking my anger out on my dog."

Now her dog, a young Beagle mix, is resting safely at the Fresno Humane Animal Services. He doesn't have any visible markings and is doing okay.

"That's a big heartbreaker," Fresno Humane Animal Services President Brenda Mitchell said. "They're good little things and it's sad to see them abused."

Corbin has been booked in the Fresno County Jail before. Officials say she's a known meth user.

"This is just a case that shows the terrible behavior that this substance can make someone exhibit," Botti said.

Now the dog is now in a safe place, thanks to Amaya and Montano who called 911 and stopped the abuse.

"It's a helpless dog, you have to do something for it!" Amaya said.

Mitchell said the dog will be kept at the shelter for now. In the future, they will look for a great home or rescue for him. Corbin now faces multiple charges, including a felony charge of animal cruelty.
