Maryland: Officer rescues dog from burning house in Pasadena

MARYLAND -- A dog is alive Thursday after being rescued by an Anne Arundel County police officer from a Pasadena house fire on Wednesday.

Police said the fire was reported at 1:30 p.m. on the 7700 block of Queens Park Road in Pasadena. The homeowner was able to escape from the residence but was unable to retrieve her dog.

The officer, who arrived on the scene prior to the fire department, went into the home to rescue the pet. Police said the officer, identified as Cpl. Selander, used his flashlight to navigate through the smoke and located the dog in a bedroom.

Police said the officer wrapped the dog in a blanket and safely removed the pet from the residence.

There is no word on what caused the fire.
