Oklahoma: Michael Kirkpatrick, 40, accused of abandoning 14 dogs to die

OKLAHOMA -- A Kremlin man is facing serious charges after police say he left 14 dogs at a home with no food or water after being evicted.

Michael Shane Kirkpatrick, 40, was taken into custody Friday night on fourteen counts of animal cruelty.

The Garfield County Sheriff's Office was notified early in the week about a number of dogs in the yard of a Kremlin, OK home without food or water, according to Sheriff Jerry Niles.

Deputies were dispatched to investigate and found the occupant of the home had been evicted a few days earlier and a number of dogs were in the yard.

A warrant was obtained and 14 dogs were taken from the home. The animals were taken to a veterinarian for treatment. One of the animals has since died, the rest of the animals have been taken to a rescue shelter pending a forfieture hearing the GCSO is hoping to have scheduled next week.

Deputies developed information that led them to Kirkpatrick being found in Enid where he was arrested and taken to the Garfield Co. Jail. Kirkpatrick is expected to be arraigned on animal cruelty charges next week.
