Texas: Animal Control removes 29 cats, including one kitten, from D’ann Trethan's San Antonio home caked in the felines' feces and ammonia

TEXAS -- Nearly 30 cats were seized from a San Antonio, Texas, home this week after the house was overrun with the animals.

Animal services removed 28 adult cats and one kitten from the home, which was caked with feces and reeked of ammonia.

The kitten was suffering from severe upper respiratory infection when animal service workers found him.

All the animals are expected to make a full recovery and none will need to be euthanized, according to Animal Care Services spokeswoman Lisa Norwood.

The 28 adult cats have been neutered and put on flea and tick medication since Tuesday, according to MySanAntonio.com.

'They've all been healthy enough to be able to be sterilized and to receive medical treatment,' Norwood told MySanAntonio.com.

The home was inspected after reports of foul smells, ACS field operations supervisor Audra Houghton said.

Once the ACS arrived at the home, they found the large amount of pet waste and notable levels of ammonia inside.

Authorities are still investigating the case.

No charges have been filed yet and it is unclear if the home was occupied at the time the animals were seized.
