Arizona: No charges for woman, Aundrea Jeffers, who duct-taped her dog

ARIZONA -- Police investigated a woman for possible animal abuse charges after she posted a photo of a dog with its muzzle duct-taped closed on social media.

No animal abuse charges were filed, but the woman was arrested for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. Police have not released her identity.

Over the weekend, the Kingman Police Department received numerous complaints regarding a post on Facebook that showed a dog with its muzzle duct-taped shut, said Deputy Chief Rusty Cooper, department spokesman.

The photo had a caption explaining that the dog’s owner created the “homemade muzzle” after the dog chewed up furniture.

The investigation showed that the dog and owner both resided in the 700 block of South Sixth Street, Cooper said. In partnership with Mohave County Animal Control, police contacted the dog’s owner, a 22-year-old Kingman woman.

The investigation showed that the dog was in good condition, and was never in any danger as a result of the home-made muzzle, Cooper said. After criminal review, it was determined that there was no intent to torture or injure the animal, therefore elements of animal cruelty were not met.

The woman was counseled on proper use of a genuine muzzle.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the woman had a misdemeanor warrant for her arrest issued by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office for failure to pay fines, Cooper said. She was booked into the Mohave County Jail in Kingman.
