IOWA -- An Ottumwa man found himself in the Wapello County Jail after concerned citizens contacted the Ottumwa Police Department with a complaint.
Neighbors of a property located at 1625 W. 2nd St. in Ottumwa complained to the OPD about neglected and dead animals at the address.
Monday morning, May 16th, a search warrant was executed.
Matthew Mark Blew, 23, of 215 Pike Rd. in Ottumwa, was formally charged on Tuesday, May 17th after several dead chickens and rabbits were discovered. The complete list of charges include:
Livestock Neglect resulting in death (Poultry)
Animal Neglect resulting in death (Rabbit)
Cruelty to Animals (neglect of a live rabbit)
Confining Animals (keeping animals on an unoccupied property)
The one surviving rabbit was voluntarily surrendered to the City of Ottumwa.
Blew was arrested and placed in the Wapello County Jail on $1,000 bond. Online records show that he has since bonded out.
