Animal Cruelty Investigation Underway In Lincoln County
An animal cruelty investigation is underway in Lincoln County after a dog is found dead behind a barn. It happened on Old Bee Lick Road outside of Crab Orchard in Lincoln County.
Some of the details in this story are graphic.
The owner says the double-wide trailer on Old Bee Lick Road was being rented out to a couple and two young children.
"I guess they just up and away left and never did come back," said owner Jeffrey Rogers.
It was about a week ago when the owners found the place vacant and in deplorable conditions.
"It ain't the way no human being should live, especially with kids," said Rogers.
"It's unbelievable how anybody could tolerate living in that situation," said Lincoln County Deputy Robert Oney.
After hours of cleaning, dozens of trash bags now line the outside of the home. A truck bed still sits full of trash in the backyard.
A dog was found dead and decomposing, behind the barn. The dog was still chained up by the collar and no food or water anywhere to be found.
Deputy Oney says a cat was also found alive inside the home, likely living off mice and garbage.
"Got it some food, fed it today and it's going to make it," said Rogers.
While it's unclear if the home will be brought back to a liveable condition, the owners say both pets could've easily been rescued.
Drug paraphernalia was also found inside the home.
The sheriff's office says the county attorney will be contacted and charges will be pursued.

On her Facebook page, she has a photo posted of a shaggy Shepherd mix chained to the barn. Compare to the screenshot taken by the media after Sheriff's deputies found the dog, which had been left behind to slowly die, chained to the barn.
On May 23rd, days after their arrests, she posts a photo of their kids with the comment "our boys our babies our lives" and her POS husband consoles her by telling her "we'll get them back". Finally child protective services does something right. These morons live like filthy pigs and force their children to live like pigs, sit around doing drugs, and then leave animals to die slow and horrible deaths. They should NEVER get these children back.
