Louisiana: Karl Kohmann, 60, accused of shooting pit bull in anger

LOUISIANA -- A Houma man faces animal cruelty charges after killing his neighbor's pit bull in retaliation for the dog biting his son, police said.

Karl David Kohman (aka Karl Kohmann), 60, of Goodwood Circle, is accused of shooting the 2-year-old dog with a .22 caliber handgun on Saturday evening, according to a news release.

Officers later learned that Kohman's 34-year-old son was walking in his neighbor's yard when the pit bull bit him on the ankle. Detectives said that the son sustained minor injuries.

After learning of the incident, Kohman allegedly went over to the neighbor's house and lured the dog over to him with a chicken bone before shooting it in the head, police said.

He then took the dog's body and threw it into the bayou near La. 57 south of Woodlawn Ranch Road, according to the release.

Karl is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, illegal use of a weapon, obstruction of justice and criminal trespassing. He was booked into the Terrebonne Parish jail.

Terrebonne Parish Animal Control authorities maintain that the dog has never displayed any type of aggressive behavior.
