Maryland: Two children arrested after trying to kill kittens by drowning them and throwing them against a dumpster repeatedly

MARYLAND -- Two kittens are fighting for their lives after being nearly drowned in Somerset County.

Maryland State Police say a woman saw two children abusing the kittens in the Princess Anne area at around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.

According to police, the woman thought the kittens were dead and left them in a box by the front door of the Somerset  Animal Hospital, which was closed at the time. The woman then reported the crime to state police, and a trooper and a volunteer went to retrieve the kittens' bodies.

On arrival, they located the two male kittens which were soaking wet, but still alive. The two male kittens are recovering but are being monitored closely, according to the Worcester County Humane Society,

Officials said the cats were repeatedly dunked in water and thrown against a dumpster before the woman intervened.

Two children have been arrested and charged with animal cruelty and released into their parents' custody per Juvenile Services.
