MICHIGAN -- A dog was rescued this week after his owner moved and left him behind to die.
Neighbors say the dog, now named Beau, was left chained outside of the house on Grandville and Curtis on Detroit's west side.
Volunteers with Home Fur-Ever, Mandi Deveja and Nei Schell, responded and found the dog severely emaciated on an 85-degree day. They said it looked like the dog hadn't eaten in weeks.
"If you see suffering going on, we have to speak up," said Schell.
7 Action News met the team at the house and it was clear Beau was hot and hungry.
"He looks older...there's some infections going for sure on his face," said Deveja.
The tipster says he's lived almost his entire life on a short, heavy chain. We're told there was also a female dog back in the yard, but she accidentally strangled herself when she jumped over the fence and her short chain caught her, leaving her hanging.
Already, Beau seems so happy to be off that chain. It's like he knows his life has changed.
"He looks elated to be off that chain," said Deveja.
Home Fur-Ever is a foster-based non-profit animal rescue. They've taken in Beau and plan to get him the medical treatment he needs.
