United Kingdom: Woman savaged by three pit bulls who attacked her dog - and owners just walked away afterwards

UNITED KINGDOM -- A woman suffered horrific injuries from three pit bulls as she desperately fought to protect her dog.

The 27-year-old from Huddersfield was attacked by the savage animals - and the owners refused to help and simply walked away after the attack, leaving her bleeding on the ground.

Katarzyna Urban, a Polish national who lives in the West Yorkshire town, was walking her dog on a lead on green land when she spotted a couple in their 30s with five dogs, none of which was on a lead.

Three were pit bulls, and they ran towards her and began attacking her dog, a bull mastiff, reports the Huddersfield Examiner.

Katarzyna tried to stop the pit bulls which then turned on her, knocking her to the floor.

She curled up to try to protect her head and hands, but the dogs repeatedly bit her legs, leaving gaping wounds.

During the attack, the owners called to the dogs a couple of times but did nothing else to stop them.

When the attack ended Katarzyna, who suffered a number of deep wounds to her legs, was lying bleeding on the ground and begged the owners to call an ambulance.

But she says they refused to help and walked away with their dogs.

A short time later she was found by a passer by who had heard her screams and who called an ambulance, and Katarzyna was taken to hospital for treatment.

Her bull mastiff was also bitten in the incident but has recovered.

Katarzyna, who speaks little English, said she has been in a “very dark place” since the attack, which happened in April.

Speaking through a friend, she said: “I am feeling very down.

“I am scared and don’t seem to be able to trust anyone any more, and worry that every time I go outside someone might attack me.

“The wounds are healing quite quickly, and that side should be fine, but I can hardly sleep and hardly eat, and feel very, very low.”

Katarzyna has only been in Huddersfield a few months. She works as a factory production operator.

Police say they are aware of the incident and are investigating.
