Vancouver police said in a Wednesday news release that police went to a home on Sunday on a report of a dog being dragged by a truck to that location. Witnesses told police they had heard a dog yelping and crying loudly and saw a dog hanging by a leash on the side of a truck.
Police say Kadow and his wife refused to let officers inside the home to check on the dog. Precious time elapsed until they were able to return with a search warrant.
Once inside, police say they found a dog's body which was taken to a county agency for a necropsy.
A later report stated that if Kadow and his wife had taken their dog to a veterinarian immediately, she might have survived. Instead, she suffered while hidden in their house while they refused to let officers inside to check on her.
Police arrested 52-year-old David Kadow Wednesday, booking him into jail on charges of animal cruelty and driving with a suspended license.
