Alabama: Dying emaciated Boxer with embedded chain found lying in a ditch

ALABAMA -- Monday evening, an injured dog was found in a ditch with a chain wrapped around its neck so tightly that his skin had grown around it, causing a severe cut.

The dog, a brown and white male boxer, was also severely dehydrated.

Deputies were alerted to the dog when responding to an unrelated call. A woman flagged them down while walking down the road and told them she had seen the injured dog lying in a ditch.

The deputies found the dog in a ditch along John’s Road after they completed their call. They gave the dog water and called the Greater Birmingham Humane Society Animal Care and Control. They came to the scene and took the dog in.

The dog is now recovering at the animal control facility, and is expected to survive. The animal cruelty investigator is seeking to identify the dog’s owner.

Anyone with information about the owner or the dog is asked to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450.
