California: Amelia Gajani-Mitchell, 59, charged with animal cruelty

CALIFORNIA -- A California woman was charged Monday by borough police with two counts of animal cruelty after she allegedly failed to properly care for a German shepherd.

Amelia Gajani-Mitchell, 59, of 254 Kaukonen Drive, Coal Center, was charged following an investigation by a humane officer with C.R.I.C.A.A.T. last month.

Gajani-Mitchell had been ordered to take the dog to a veterinarian to be checked. She is also accused of depriving the dog of food, water and shelter for at least a month, police said.

Police are asking that it Gajani-Mitchell is convicted, that in addition to fines, she be ordered to forfeit the dog to any agency or association for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Joshua Kanalis.
