Oklahoma: Michael Sloan, 58, Arrested For Elder Abuse, Animal Cruelty

OKLAHOMA -- Wagoner County Sheriff deputies arrested a man for abandoning his elderly father in a dangerously filthy home full of dogs and cats.

As his 79-year-old father lay helplessly on the floor of the feces-covered house, deputies say 58-year-old Michael Sloan was staying at a Days Inn with his daughter.

They arrested him at the motel on charges of elderly abuse and animal cruelty.

Deputies say Bob Sloan was alone in the house for a week and a half until his landlord asked the sheriff's department to check on him.

When they arrived, they saw the house in shambles and said the elderly man had fallen and was likely on the floor for days.

He got medical care and is now living at a nursing home, where deputies say he's happy.

The sheriff's office said his son, Michael, had recently received some Social Security settlement money and used it to check into the hotel, but he left his father in the filthy home with dozens of cats and dogs - one of them had been dead for days.

Michael Sloan bailed out of the Wagoner County Jail on $10,000 bond.

Wagoner Animal Guardian Society volunteers have been at the property every day this week looking for any pets left behind.

WAGS said it received an outpouring of donations since the first News On 6 story aired Monday, but you can still make donations here.

The rescued animals are staying with foster families as well as Oklahoma Animal Alliance and Happy Paws Rescue in Checotah.

The house will likely be demolished.
